Neo the Android

Once hailed as Dr. Eggman’s greatest creation, Neo is prideful and perhaps a bit arrogant, often preferring to do things xenself. Xer biggest pet peeve is being blown off or underestimated. Xe can be quick to anger with people xe doesn’t like, but has remarkable patience with the people xe cares about.

Fun fact: The Master Emerald freed xen from Eggman's control, and even re-wrote xer code so that xe couldn't be controlled again. Xe calls xer unique system ChaOS (Pronounced "K O S", a play on 'Chaos').

Fun fact: He idolizes his big sis. He used to desperately wish he was Metal Tails.

Cupid is very playful and free-spirited. He has a hard time focusing on things that don't interest him, and tends to come off as unmotivated. Things they do like can highlight their surprising level of skill. She still has issues with thinking for herself, unfortunately. It's opted out of the running for leader; it doesn't think it's cut out for that.

The first Metal Sonic and oldest running badnik, Shard has dedicated his existence to being a better hero than Sonic. He was made with Sonic's biodata and was left to rust after his first failure because Eggman found him annoying. He was later found and repaired by Tails at Sonic's request.

Dislikes: sitting still, relaxing, Being buried alive.

Fun fact: He doesn't actually care what pronouns are used for him, but he decided it was simplest to keep the set everyone already associated him with.

A young girl who was dragged into all of this by a chance friendship with Orchid.

Fun fact: While she has much less relevance, she does still exist in the NBE Timeline.

Characters whose name or pronoun use changes during the story are referred to with the name/pronouns they use at the time. Most noticeable for Neo, Orchid, and Cupid.
After the events of Sonic Forces, Neo Metal Sonic makes an attempt to take over the world, during which he goes super and his code is scrambled. He is defeated as Master Overlord.
Tails repairs Metal Sonic. He returns to the Empire.
Dr. Eggman is proud of Metal for his actions as Neo, and tells him he's officially in charge if something happens to him again. Metal gets a voice chip added to his standard form and his ability to shapeshift back.
Mr. Tinker makes a sudden return one morning. Neo introduces himself by that name, and Orbot and Cubot continue calling him this when no one else is around.
Tinker wants to go look for Belle, but Orbot suggests Neo go instead. Neo and Shadow end up meeting, and Neo realizes he can't remember certain events Shadow mentions.
Neo finds Belle and brings her back to the base.
Neo finds she prefers it when Shard calls her 'sis', and comes out to Orbot and Cubot.
Orbot and Cubot help Neo start to identify more with 'Neo' as her name and not sharing an identity with Sonic, thus not having to fight for it.
Post Metal Virus. Neo is sent to stall Shadow so Eggman and the twins can escape. Shadow manages to convince her to stop following Eggman. She returns to Eggman's base to get Omega back.
First, Neo takes Belle to Tails' lab on Mr. Tinker's request. Shard promises to look after Belle, so Neo returns to the base.
I think I need to pull this directly from the summary doc: "Tinker encourages Neo to go live xer gay robot dreams with the Ultimate Lifeform, and xe sets off to do just that. Starting with retrieving Omega."
Cubot refuses the offer, but Orbot agrees and leaves with Neo and Omega.
Neo brings Orbot and Omega to Team Dark's house. Omega is very picky about his body so Neo focuses on building a stealth android body for Orbot while Rouge looks into replacement parts.
Orbot changes his name to Orchid; he is now passing as a psychic mobian fox.
Team Dark splits up due to a disagreement on methodology, and the Chao Races sublot kicks off fairly similar to canon other than Neo being with Shadow.
Eggman sends bots to attack the town where Team Dark happens to live. Orchid keeps a few people safe, including Tails, who develops a crush on him.
Someone was hurt badly, and Orchid helps save her. Tails continues a conversation afterwards, which Orchid eventually dips out of after traumadumping vaguely.
Tails goes back to that town the next day and finds Orchid. The two talk for a while before Orchid finally asks Tails to for help.
